6. Bastion
Bastion was a unique little action adventure title that really stood out due to its in-game narrator, who actually commentated on your actions as you performed them. The narrator almost seemed omniscient as he provided real-time commentary on everything the game's protagonist did.
In the very early moments of the game, the narrator follows our hero, known only as The Kid, as he runs through the world before picking up his first weapon: a hammer. If you choose, you can start swinging the hammer straight away and smashing the barriers along the side of the game world, opening up gaps through which you can fall into the bottomless pit of darkness below.
What makes this death extra special is that the narrator actually comments on it as it happens! As soon as you step over the edge, he interrupts his story to say "And then, he falls to his death" before adding "Only foolin'" as The Kid respawns back on solid ground.
