10 Video Games That KNEW You'd Try To Cheat

8. Tomb Raider II - Exploding Lara

Cheat codes have been around for absolutely decades, one of the oldest tricks in the book for players to gain some sort of in-game advantage.

And the original 1996 Tomb Raider game contained a couple for itself, including Level Skip and All Weapons/Armour Refill, with the latter requiring Lara to take one step forward, one step backward, spin in a circle three times and then do a backflip.

This exact same cheat code returned in 1997's Tomb Raider II, only this time, developers Core Design had a funny little trick up their sleeves for anyone who attempted to use it.

The steps to execute the cheat were exactly the same as in the first game, with an additional step tacked onto the front - lighting a flare. But players who didn't know about the flare, understandably, tried to pull off the cheat in the same way they did in Tomb Raider - and when they did, Lara would explode into a shower of fleshy chunks.

Unfortunately, there wasn't any blood and gore, but it's a hilarious sight that undoubtedly shocked many a cheater back in the late 1990s.
