Star Trek is not a franchise that has lent itself particularly well to video games of late. Although there were some popular and well-received Star Trek games released in the '90s, it seems that as technology has improved, a solid title featuring Kirk and co. has still managed to elude developers.

Star Trek's big screen reboot in 2009 saw the series get a sleek and shiny facelift, so when a game was announced in which the film's cast would reprise their roles, it was met with tentative enthusiasm.

When the game released, however, that enthusiasm was ground to nothing more than a dark smear under the boot of movie tie-in games.

Star Trek's use of co-operative gameplay elements could have been fun, but the entire thing felt shoddy and half-hearted. Not to mention that, at launch, the ability to use the co-op features that were one of the game's main draws was completely inaccessible to many, for reasons that were never fully disclosed.

Star Trek has since come to be considered one of the worst video games of all time. Its poor condition wasn't exclusively down to it being released unfinished, but the issues that existed at launch were enough to earn it a spot on this list.
