10 Video Games That Lied Straight To Your Face
1. Fallout 76 Didn't Just Work
Bethesda came at E3 2018 like an out-of-season Santa Claus, announcing Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield, and the infamous Fallout 76. Lauded as four times bigger than Fallout 4, with 16 times the detail, fans were foaming at the mouth for a taste of what Fallout 76 had to offer.
However, Todd Howard's E3 claims like “you’ll never even see a server when you play” were very clearly fibs once players booted up the game. Server crashes were very much visible, along with a tidal wave of buggy content. One YouTuber even created a three-hour video of 1001 glitches they encountered.
Another straight-up lie came with in the form of a promised canvas bag with the Power Armour Edition. When fans got their shiny power armour helmets, however, they quickly discovered the bag was made of nylon instead of canvas. After contacting Bethesda’s customer support, players were greeted with a very curt response:
“We aren’t planning on doing anything about it.”
Adding salt to the wounds of players, it was discovered Bethesda gave influencers canvas bags (albeit not the advertised ones) before players who spent over $200 for them. The lie became part of a class action lawsuit that was already looking for compensation after Bethesda refused player refunds.
Fortunately, that support email has become an untruth itself, as six months after release, Bethesda finally united players with their canvas bags. Hooray?
