10 Video Games That Lied Straight To Your Face

3. Anthem's Graphical Downgrades

Final Fantasy 7 Remake
BioWare

Aliens: Colonial Marines was by no means the last game to present misleading graphics at gaming conventions. Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs and Division scored much hate from players after their E3 demos looked nothing like the finished products, and Anthem wasn't far behind.

Anthem's trailer presented a gorgeous world filled with dynamic character animations and backdrops. Herds of creatures stampede under the flying player, as enemies burrow up from the ground like the Gears of War’s Locust Horde, itching for a fight.

Yet when the game released, these features were nowhere in sight. Open world events weren’t as explosive and action-packed, while transition animations and mission markers present in the trailers were nowhere to be seen in the final product.

While Bioware’s Ben Irving attempted to explain that things inevitably change during development, many pointed out these hyperbolic trailers haunted two E3 conventions. In addition, the Our World, My Story Trailer premiered five months before Anthem's release, flaunting superior graphics and exaggerated gameplay promises.
