10 Video Games That Literally Dragged You Through Hell
6. Doom (any, but probably 2016 / Doom Eternal for relevancy)
Doom is the epitome of shoot first, ask questions never gaming. Every entry promises you two things: big demons, and big guns to shoot them with. These demons are always from Hell, in one way or another, and in the latest entry Doom Eternal, the forces of hell are coming for you, one way or another.
There are new and returning Demon types to go toe-to-toe with, and new weapons. Your battle arenas here are made from the black towers, horned citadels, flesh walls and rough platforms of Hell. Some of the scientific laboratories and experimental facilities make their return, but for each of those there's about five putrid, fleshy tunnels covered in bile and teeth to crawl your way through. Everything that can have horns, does indeed have horns. The blood-red vistas are made even redder by the ever-expanding arsenal of Doomguy as you continue to get ever better at slaying demons.
Doom Eternal ends up telling us that, no matter how old we get, there will always be demons, there will also be inventive ways for Doomguy to slay said demons, and that the armies of Hell should invest in better, less flesh-based building materials.
