10 Video Games That Literally Dragged You Through Hell
7. Lost Izalith - Dark Souls
Some may argue that the mere experience of playing through Dark Souls is like being put through hell, and I bet those same players would suggest playing through the pre-remaster version of Blighttown might well have felt like being dragged through the underworld. However, there's a pretty clear analogy for the place down in Lost Izalith. According to the lore, this is where the witch-sisters of Izalith tried to replicate the life-giving "First Flame", but did so imperfectly and ignited the place.
Lost Izalith, as it is now known, is primarily the domain of demons now. There's very little life beyond the demons themselves, as well as a sprawling lake of fire. Add in the twisted, deformed sole brother of the sisters, now known as "Ceaseless Discharge" and the horror of the Centipede Demon, and you've got a deeply unpleasant Hell analogue.
It's also at one of the deepest points of the world, and any player worth their salt will tell you that the experience of confronting boss of this zone, the aptly-named Bed of Chaos, is about as frustrating and painful as eternal damnation probably is. Yep, this is definitely Hell in all but name.
