With a name like Diablo, there's really no surprise this series finds its roots in Hell.
Developed by the heavy hitters over at Blizzard, the Diablo series has cemented its place in history as not only one of the greatest RPGs of all time, but as one of the greatest games of all time. The series has been around for over 20 years with no signs of stopping, as it's confirmed a new Diablo project is in the works.
Much of Diablo doesn't take place in Hell itself, but against the forces of Hell. However, parts of the game take you to the land of fire and brimstone to take on these demons on their home turf. While in Hell, the music that plays is something of nightmares, as it finds its way under your skin and playing on your anxiety. It develops a sense of unease in you that paired with the visuals, albeit dated nowadays, give you a real feel that your in Hell. This overwhelming sense of dread more than makes up for the fact that the game isn't solely based there.
While In Hell, demons quickly outnumber you and make you feel helpless to the hordes, but experienced players have no problem making short work of them. In fact, experienced players have no problem making short work of most enemies in the game, including the towering demon Diablo.
This is a game that does what it can to make Hell a dreadful place. It's not somewhere you want to be, and this atmosphere is why it's one of the better depictions of Hell in video games.
