7. Revenge Of The Microtransactions In Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Another entry, another attempt by EA to make you hang up your controllers for good with more microtransaction crap!
This time, they're after your childhood once again as they try to ruin your power fantasies of taking part in the most epic battles in the Star Wars series and becoming the Jedi/Sith legend you know you are.
When first released, the state of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was laughable. It was so jam-packed to the gills with microtransactions you could barely move without seeing one. Not only that - it went straight for the loot box trend taking the industry by storm, and - even worse - it allowed people to gain an advantage by spending money on loot boxes.
In the biggest travesty of all, fan-favourite characters including Darth Vader himself were completely locked behind either a massive grind, or you could buy him using your real money if you wanted to speed up the process.
Due to the massive (and rightly deserved!) backlash from players after this was all implemented, developers DICE had to go back to the game, completely remove the microtransaction model, and gradually improve the game to the point it should have been in the first place.
The backlash to the microtransactions was so big, when EA's community team tried to smooth things over with a response on Reddit, it became the single-most downvoted post in the history of Reddit, amassing over 600,000 downvotes.
