10 Video Games That Make You Realise How Greedy The Industry Has Become
9. Sonic '06 Being Rushed To Make A Christmas Release
With the incredibly successful release of
Sonic 1, 2 and 3, SEGA's answer to Mario revelled in the spotlight for many years, and there were no signs of him slowing down.
One of the first bumps in the road for the franchise, however, was seen with Sonic's edgier counterpart,"Shadow the Hedgehog", receiving lukewarm reviews. Things only seemed to get worse from there, culminating in 2006 with the release of the notoriously self-titled, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Whilst the Adventure series has a huge following of dedicated followers all looking for that next instalment, fans were met with tragedy when Sonic ’06 hit store shelves, bolstering bugs galore, a naff storyline and cringe-inducing dialogue. The game was virtually unplayable.
The reason the game was so bad was apparently that SEGA wanted a Christmas release to get more sales, meaning staff were pressured to quickly finish the game without refining it.
All of this resulting in a poor game and a scorned reputation that the franchise struggled to recover from.
