10 Video Games That Mocked Their Rivals

6. Serious Sam Blasts Duke Nukem Forever's Development Cycle

The Serious Sam games are pretty simple in execution - first person shooters featuring big guns, insane amounts of enemies, huge bosses, and a snarky attitude.

This attitude includes jibes at a very similar franchise, that being Duke Nukem; specifically, the laughably long development cycle of Duke Nukem Forever. The first Serious Sam included a joke at Duke's expense in the form of a phone call that alluded to Sam being tired of waiting for Duke to show up.

Four years later, when DNF was still in 'development', the sequel stepped its insults up.

While on a mission to find a 'duke's coat' , our hero Sam finds a very distinctive skeleton hanging from a tree. This skeleton has blonde hair, sunglasses, and black combat boots. The skeleton is also sporting what appears to be a live rocket in a spot that must have necessitated a painful insertion.

Just to drive the point home, Sam then has a dialogue line about how this poor skeleton has been hanging there 'forever.' Not subtle, but funny.

The kicker is that Serious Sam 2 was making this joke in 2005. Duke Nukem Forever wouldn't be released for another six years after that!
