10 Video Games That Mocked Their Rivals
4. Saint's Row 4 Makes Fun Of An Icon Of Stealth Gaming
The latter Saints Row games were never meant to be taken as anything less than ridiculous fun. By the time your character is the President of the United States fighting off an alien incursion of Earth, there's not much more to say.
With tongue firmly in cheek, Saints Row 4 includes stealth missions that parodied iconic tropes from the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Your in-game companion is insistent that you follow a specific 'order of operations' as you proceed through the mission.
This includes cloned evil versions of the characters, an eyepatch wearing bad guy, shooting out lights for seemingly no reason, and guards who make an alert sound and display an exclamation of WTF! overhead when they spot you.
And what would a MGS parody be without a cardboard box portion, actually allowing you to get an achievement for making a 'Cardboard Box Kill'.
For Metal Gear purists, it's likely sacrilege, but for those of us who can appreciate taking swipes at a beloved franchise, it is a very enjoyable chunk of the game.
For some added laughs, make sure you listen to the side conversations the various guards are having as you sneak among them.
