10 Video Games That Mocked You For Winning

6. Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog is a tough enough game as it is, so you can't really be blamed for focusing on simply making it to the end in one piece.

But if you rush through each level with a frantic urgency and manage to defeat Dr. Robotnik, the end credits will be followed by a patronising "try again" message, as Robotnik is seen juggling the six Chaos Emeralds you didn't bother to collect. Pfft.

To unlock the "good" ending, you have to collect 50 gold rings in order to enter each Zone's special stage, which will allow you to pick up a Chaos Emerald.

If you do this for each Zone and then defeat Robotnik, you'll get a slightly sunnier ending where the villain is seen jumping up and down angrily on top of the "end" message, having no Emeralds to play with.

But given that getting to the end of the game under any circumstances is an impressive feat, for the game to shame you for not bothering with an optional fetch quest is pretty damn rude.
