10 Video Games That Mocked You For Winning

3. Braid

Braid Princess Ending
Number None

Jonathan Blow's terrifically charming platformer Braid casts the player as Tim, a man who spends the game attempting to rescue a princess from a grotesque monster. It's a classic, tried-and-tested video game formula, right?

Except, the devastating final level reveals that the princess has actually been fleeing from Tim the entire time, him being the monster she was attempting to escape, while what Tim thought was the monster was actually a gallant knight who ultimately rescues her.

Though Blow keeps the specifics of the narrative brilliantly ambiguous, to flip the script at the last minute and admonish the player for unknowingly being a huge creeper sure is something else.

It is the perfect artistic rendition of the saying, "every villain is a hero of his own story."
