2. Dark Souls
Its not all retro, people who say gamers have it easy these days should be abducted late at night, sealed in a small room and told if you want to see your family again, you have to finish Dark Souls. Its an incredible series that want you to feel like youve achieved something at the end of the day. Youre not going to rock up, bash through a level, monotonously get through the boss and have an early night, your palms will be sweaty from stress, your eyes will hurt from a lack of sleep, and you will pray for death by the end. The game wont help you out either. It will drop you in the world, not tell you where to go and leave you slowly figuring out there are numerable ways of killing and surviving and when youre getting to grips with the very basics, it will then throw bosses at you that feel like theyve been pulled into the world from a dimension where they breathe acid and eat pain. These often-hulking monstrosities will break down the person you were and leave a quivering shell haunted by the things youve done. Dark Souls isnt a game, its a life choice.
