10 Video Games That Punish You For Cheating
9. Save Scumming Counter-Measures - Fallout: New Vegas
The beauty of Bethesda's RPGs is that you can save at basically any time, effectively allowing you to "save scum" your way through difficult sections - that is, saving with an abusive regularity to brute-force your way through a tricky encounter.
And naturally, players attempted to use this snide play-style to game the casino in Fallout: New Vegas, only to find that developer Obsidian Entertainment had implemented a clever counter-measure.
If you lose on, say, blackjack or roulette, and then reload your game to before you lost all your cash, the game will know this and explain that the dealer is currently making adjustments as an anti-cheating measure, and that you should come back in a minute.
Basically, you're locked out of replaying the casino games for 60 seconds if you reload your game soon after gambling, which will immediately de-incentivise anyone attempting to make some quick cash through save scumming.
A minute may not sound like much, but given that save scumming is supposed to be a massive time saver, this counter-measure turns it into a laborious waste of time.
