10 Video Games That Punish You For Double Crossing Characters

8. Being A Crappy Commander - Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2
Bioware

To really screw yourself over in Mass Effect 2 you’re basically going to need to be the worst Commander in the galaxy but this is a game about being a double-crossing scumbag so let’s assume you did that.

Choosing unkind and renegade options regularly, especially in your companion’s loyalty missions can result in them being disloyal to you when you need them later on, or it will lead to their death late in the game. For example, if you ignore Miranda’s Loyalty Mission, treat her unkindly or don’t keep her in the loop she will die in the Priority: Horizon mission.

Similarly, failing to help Thane find his son, or throwing Tali’s father under the bus during her Loyalty Mission will result in them being Disloyal to you for the rest of the game. Having any Disloyal squadmates during the game’s pivotal and easily fatal Suicide Mission can result in one or more of your companions dying so if you’ve been a shitty friend you can expect to say some hard goodbyes at the end of this one.

Or maybe not so hard goodbyes if you weren’t that into them anyway.
