10 Video Games That Punish You For Playing Perfectly
6. Final Fantasy II
One of the interesting things about Final Fantasy II is the stat growth system. Instead of merely boosting your skills when you level up, it runs by a method similar to the likes of Skyrim - where every time you use a weapon or spell, it increases their skill. Use whatever ability enough times, and you'll level it up.
While this is usually an effective system, it does come with some crucial issues: namely, that in order to effectively level up your skills, you don't want to win too quickly. Kill an enemy in a single hit, and the fight has been significantly less useful than if you'd had to duke it out for a long time.
It's an effective way to prevent too much grinding, but it seems weird that Final Fantasy of all games worried about people grinding. It's even weirder when you think that knowing about this system would make you play the game purposefully "bad" at points, just so you can maximise your skills.
