10 Video Games That Punished You For Being A Thief

8. Steal A Forsworn Briarheart's Heart & They'll Send Thugs From The Afterlife - Skyrim

The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
Bethesda

Bethesda's RPGs generally hold a pretty strict stance on theft, and this is taken to an hilarious and not-quite-logical extreme in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Players who successfully sneak up on a Forsworn Briarheart will find themselves able to pickpocket their briar heart, which was placed in their chest as part of the ritual which turned them into an undead Forsworn warrior (switching out their human heart in the process).

Unsurprisingly, stealing a Forsworn Briarheart's heart causes them to immediately keel over dead, but where's the punishment, you ask?

Well, despite being instantly dead, the Briarheart will somehow still find a way to send a gang of thugs after you from the nether.

Stranger still, if you manage to defeat the thugs, you might find a note among their possessions from the Briarheart, urging them to teach you a lesson for your thievery.

Quite how they managed to write and send a note with their heart ripped out is anyone's guess. Funny, but creepy too.
