The humour of the Borderlands games certainly isn’t for everyone. A little rude, a little silly, a little slapstick, it’s an acquired taste. Borderlands 2, in particular, is absolutely unapologetic about diving into popular culture and memes for many of its jokes.

As brutal and bloody as the action can be, this Gearbox looter shooter never takes itself seriously for a second. True to form, while its credits sequence doesn’t offer tangible rewards or provide a minigame, it manages to be an entertaining watch nonetheless.

As the names start to scroll, it looks as though it may be a boring, monochrome movie-credits-esque display, but Gearbox soon ups the ante. The funky music builds in tempo, and hand-drawn images appear on the screen showing glimpses of the main cast and other NPCs going about their post-Handsome Jack lives.

A statue of Jack is pulled down, a delighted Mordecai watches an egg containing a new companion after Bloodwing (Talon) hatch in his hands, and more.

The scenes repeat, and the viewer’s interest may wane. At this point, personal thanks messages from each of the team members kick in, and they’re a delight to read.

From the touching (“Thank you to my wonderful partner Liz for being my muse and to my family and friends for all of the love and support I could wish for,” writes Brian Thomas) to the hilarious (“Something clever? Something thoughtful? Nah… Balungas!,” contributes Patrick Fenn), these are must-reads.
