But there's perhaps no update to a video game which categorically pissed more players off than Uncharted 2's infamous 1.05 patch.

Uncharted 2 released to rave reviews in late 2009 for its cinematic campaign and unexpectedly riveting multiplayer component, yet a few months later in February 2010, Naughty Dog made a rare catastrophic misstep by releasing a patch which significantly altered the multiplayer experience.

The "rebalancing" patch reduced damage across the multiplayer mode's weapons while also lowering the TTK, meaning players would die much faster.

On one hand many players felt that the weapons now lacked personality and there wasn't much incentive to experiment with different loadouts, and the lower TTK made even acts like climbing ladders extremely risky.

Basically, the game hadn't been designed around these changes, and they ended up compromising the experience significantly enough that a mass exodus of players soon enough began, with many comparing the twitchy new play-style to that of the Call of Duty games.

Despite Naughty Dog promising to take feedback onboard, they never rolled back these aggressive changes, ensuring that the multiplayer community never recovered.

Considering how fiendishly addictive Uncharted 2's multiplayer mode was during the game's launch period, Naughty Dog well and truly shot themselves in the foot with the sweeping changes.
