The opening of The Witcher 2 is so punishingly difficult, it's a relief when Geralt of Rivia finally gets to move onto the main campaign.

Unfortunately, it's likely the white-haired warlock's progress will be stopped dead after encountering the Kayran. Even though Geralt is well-versed with monsters, this swamp boss is sure to give the titular hero serious trouble.

The Kayran spews venomous mucus, sapping Geralt's health down to nothing unless he takes a swig of a poison-preventing potion.

Sadly, that's not the worst part. The Kayran's tentacles give it a vast reach, making it extremely difficult to dodge attacks, especially when the vile beast sweeps the entire area with its many arms.

Since the Kayran can only be beaten by hacking off its appendages, Geralt has to wait for it to attack first, meaning he has to constantly put himself in danger. Also, the tendrils do major damage, meaning Geralt can be killed with only a few strikes.

Due to its substantial size and crushing difficulty, the Kayran genuinely feels like a later boss that was placed in the game's first section by mistake.
