10 Video Games That Start With The Final Boss

6. Final Fantasy

It's fairly common in the Final Fantasy series for the final boss to show up before the end, either to lay the smackdown on you or just dance around and make themselves known.

Well, Final Fantasy IX apparently fell asleep at that meeting, but other than that...

The first game in the long-running series, released in 1987, features an early-game boss fight against a powerful knight named Garland, who is holding the kingdom of Cornelia to ransom by imprisoning the king's daughter, Sarah.

Your party is able to do away with him without much trouble, and at that point, Garland's reign of terror seems to be over for good.

It's only near the end of the game, when the heroes travel 2000 years into the past, that they discover Garland has been sent back too, very much alive. Except now, he's not just a knight; he's a full-fledged demon, Chaos.

These things aren't too uncommon now, given how long the Final Fantasy series has been going. But imagine the shock players got seeing this in '87!
