10 Video Games That Were Banned For Seriously Barmy Reasons

5. Mass Effect Was Banned In Singapore Because Of An Implied Lesbian Romance

url-22 In Singapore, you don't want to be messin' around romantically with anybody or anything from another species - especially if they happen to be a genderless alien from another planet. And that's the kind of logic that lead to Mass Effect's banning in that particular country, because God forbid there's any lesbian-based interspecies hook-ups going on in a fictional world that doesn't exist. To moment in question - which was achieved only if you played as a female character and "romanced" a blue alien character over the course of the game - had the two characters sharing an implied romance, though there were no scenes of sex or nudity, and nothing particularly earth-shattering took place. The outcry which lead to Mass Effect's getting banned stemmed from the fact that this was an implied "lesbian encounter," a decision which didn't seem to take into consideration that the blue alien was an alien, not to mention one that doesn't even have a gender. Eventually fans of the game went insane over the fact that the game had been banned for pretty much no reason, and the decision to not allow a human and an alien to romance one another was overturned. I mean, what will they ban next? Kissing a planet? Attempting to seduce a droid? I'm not sure I want to even live in a world in which those things are no longer possible.
