4. SimCity (2013)
Always online. Remember when that was the popular trend for games. And remember how it pretty much killed every single game that had it featured in it. There was the whole Kinect debacle, but perhaps the most cataclysmic of examples is that of SimCity
EA (Yes, don't worry. This is the second last time they are mentioned.) forced the game to be played always online in a vain attempt to tack on some meagre online features. Not only did the game not need online, but the online support for the game was simply shocking.
No money had been spent on the servers, and as result, the connection was apocalyptic at launch. The game was pretty much unplayable for several weeks, during which point most people jumped ship to competitors in the city building marketplace.
