10 Video Games That Were Never Better Than Their First Levels
9. Bayonetta
The stakes were quite high for 2009’s Bayonetta. It was created by PlatinumGames, a studio with a well-deserved reputation for developing the most wild, absurd, brilliant and flashy action games around. This time around, though, they were bringing something else along for the ride: a new main character, who exuded all of those qualities and a whole lot of bold and beautiful personality to boot.
If you’re looking for a relaxing, peaceful title to unwind with, Bayonetta is not that game. You’re thinking more along the lines of Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley. PlatinumGames just don’t know the meaning of the phrase ‘rein it in.’
With all of this in mind, then, it’s no surprise that Bayonetta starts in explosive style. There’s angel spanking, a demonic man emerging from the dead and lighting a cigar with his flaming finger, a graveyard being destroyed and copious amounts of profanity. All of that’s before we even take control of Bayonetta. Once we do, the stylish hack and slash action really ramps up.
