10 Video Games That Were Ruined By Their Own Fanbases

8. Counter Strike: Global Offensive

Anyone whose played CS: GO with any degree of consistency over the years knows that the fanbase can be an obnoxious bunch of elitist douchebags. Not only do they willingly buy into the series€™ exploitative micro-transaction system, and not only are they constantly hurling abuse at each other online, but their almost obsessive-compulsive fixation on how they play is astounding.

If you don€™t know what you€™re doing, prepare to get abused; if you don€™t know where to adequately take cover on every single map, prepare to get abused. If you don€™t know that running with the knife in hand makes you faster, or that holding shift makes your footsteps silent, then buddy, prepare to be abused. Unless you have someone to hold your hand while you make your first tepid steps in the game, the CS: GO fanbase will eat you alive.

Dust II is particularly frustrating; all experienced CS: GO players know that map inside out, like the back of their hands. They know where the enemy team is likely to come from, and they know the best places to position themselves against enemy fire; they know where to stand in order to get a quick headshot from the spawn-point, and they know exactly where to conceal themselves. The map is a fan favourite for a reason, only fans know how to effectively play on the damn thing.
