10 Video Games That Were Secretly Judging You The Whole Time
7. Ciri's Fate - Witcher 3
Although one of the core themes of the Witcher's storyline is learning to choose between the greater and the lesser evil, the question of morality isn't really something that the games try to quantify or put into some kind of rigid morality system. The player is allowed to make decisions of their own volition and deal with their consequences later. However, whereas most in-game decisions have pretty intuitive consequences, some have a much bigger impact than one might initially think.
After Geralt finds and rescues Ciri, there are several scenes in which the player can decide how the witcher should treat his protege. Geralt can be strict or playful, protective or dismissive, supportive or demanding. At first glance, these moments are only meant to establish the dynamic between Geralt and Ciri. However, once the player reaches the end of the game, it turns out they also serve another, secret purpose.
In the final act of The Witcher 3, Ciri decides to venture into the heart of the White Frost in order to save the world. During this scene, Ciri reflects on her memories with Geralt and friends. Depending on how Geralt treated her, the memories will either help her overcome the Frost and emerge out of it safely or doom her to getting consumed by it.
