10 Video Games That Were Too Damn Long

8. Alien Isolation

Final Fantasy XV Facepalm
Sega

Like most entries on this list, Alien Isolation is a sad case. It's a phenomenal game filled with tension and fear as the titular alien stops at almost nothing to kill you and has you holding your breath in real life just to avoid incurring its wrath. Throughout the first half, there is almost nothing you can do to stop the Alien except for run, hide, and pray to whatever God you worship that it doesn't notice you hiding in that conspicuous locker.

So it really kills the atmosphere once Amanda Ripley gets her hands on a flamethrower. With this weapon you no longer have that feeling of pure stunned horror, as every little noise on the ship previously had you convinced that the Alien is coming and you're most likely about to be brutally murdered. Now instead every noise is just another excuse to violently coat the surrounding area in fire like some sort of sci-fi Vietnam flashback.

From this point on the game becomes sluggish, and the structure as one long fetch quest now becomes abundantly clear. By the time the credits roll players will have spent hours just kind of letting the game happen to them as they briskly advanced the plot, leaving us all to wonder just how great it could have been with a few hours polished off.
