10 Video Games That Won By Destroying EVERYTHING
5. Devil May Cry 5
Despite the fact Devil May Cry was touted as the next big name to look out for, the sequel almost killed Capcom's demon-slaying IP then and there.
Though it got back on track, the follow-ups' lame one-liners and too-cool-for-school action came across as juvenile and parodical. (It's impossible to take the antagonist of DMC3 seriously when he says, "Jester gonna spank your butt".)
As a result, having Ninja Theory develop a serious reboot seemed like a welcome change. Unfortunately, a lot of people didn't like how DmC reworked the wise-cracking Dante into a mopey and broody antihero. DmC was a critical success but its sales record said otherwise.
Taking this into account, the original creators devised a direct continuation of the original games, bringing back all the OTT action and cheesy characters for DMC5. But with its accessible combat mechanics, diverse fighting styles, detailed world-building, and epic bosses, the fifth (technically sixth) instalment was arguably the best yet.
Although DmC has plenty of defenders, Capcom made the right move by going back to its roots, considering DMC5 sold double the amount of its predecessor and is currently the most successful entry in the series.
