10 Video Games That Won By Destroying EVERYTHING
2. DOOM (2016)
Doom 3 is by no means a bad game. With that said, id Software's decision to go against the grain didn't do itself any favours. 95% of the gameplay in the earlier games involved blasting everything in sight, which is why the pioneering FPS is renowned for its bombastic action.
But for Doom 3, the developers went in the opposite direction, favouring atmosphere, subtlety, and story. These elements are all well and good, but Doom was founded on obliterating everything in sight, reducing every Imp, Pinky, and Arachnotron to a bloody smear on the wall.
As a result, it was a relief when 2016's DOOM decided to follow the original's blueprint. Our heroic marine finds himself battling the forces of hell mere seconds after booting up the main campaign. The combat has never been this relentless, since the weapons don't require reloading nor do the demons ever stop coming. The gameplay is straightforward but never feels repetitive, thanks to the creative mechanics, including the Glory Kills and weapon mods.
Even though the devil-blasting shooter had a brief rough patch with Doom 3, DOOM made the IP stronger than ever.
