Keeping track of the Darksiders development saga is like one of those adventure games where the magical amulet has been shattered and you have to travel the world to find all of the pieces. The shards of hope are scattered, and the chances of uniting all of the elements to create a Darksiders 3 are slim at best. When THQ went bang, the Darksiders IP was auctioned off and picked up by Nordic Games, who have since done precisely bugger-all with it. While the IP found a buyer, developer Vigil Games was left like the fat kid that no one wants to pick for their sports team. And so they were disbanded, many of the key members being picked up by Crytek to form Crytek USA. Which then crumbled into nothingness few months ago, with studio head (and Darksiders creator) David Adams off to form Gunfire Games. So, we have a seemingly disinterested publisher and a development team in tatters. All of this doesn't bode well for a third chapter in the much loved Darksiders story. Which is where Microsoft comes in: ply Nordic Games with enough cash, bankroll a successful developer to get involved, and we could have a winner on our hands. It's the sort of franchise which, in the right hands, could draw customers in big numbers. It's due time that this charming hack'n'slash adventure is resurrected, and the Xbox One is the perfect platform to see that happen.
Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
