The Dream: After two incredible Mass Effect games, the third is going to tie together all of our crucial decisions throughout the game, delivering a unique, individual climax depending on the choices we as players made. BioWare have promised it, and there's no way they'd lie about such a huge selling point, surely? The Reality: Well, BioWare lied. In 2012, gamers everywhere smashed their keyboards to pieces after realising they'd been had. The end of Mass Effect 3 came down to picking one of three colours and crossing your fingers, leading to worldwide outrage online, to the point that BioWare released an Extended Cut ending in order to try and pacify p***ed off gamers everywhere. Though BioWare did to their credit try to fix the mess they'd made, it really wasn't good enough, as to implement their promises properly would have required a substantial re-build of the final hour of the game. Still, the mass anger towards BioWare has at least made it clear to them and other developers that they can't just phone it in and make false promises: they will be called out on it and suffer huge embarrassment as a result.
