The Dream: After the brilliantly devastating cliffhanger of Half-Life: Episode Two, Valve would ultimately decide to forego an Episode Three and make Half-Life 3 a direct sequel to the game. After a lengthy 5-year wait, the game finally dropped in 2012 to universal critical acclaim, easily wiping the floor with every previous game in the series. The Reality: Not quite. It's almost 7 years since the devastating cliffhanger ending of Episode Two shocked us all, and we're still no closer to knowing a) when Half-Life 3 is being released and b) if it's even in development. Pretty much a month doesn't go by without some Internet trickster creating a hoax that, through sheer desperation, we all haplessly buy into, but in typical Valve fashion, they've kept their lips mostly zipped on the matter, and will presumably continue to do so until the game, assuming it's being made, is anywhere near ready. On one hand, at least Valve's approach won't keep continually letting us down with delay after delay, but would it kill Gabe Newell to just tell us that the game's being made or isn't? Knowing that it's a thing and it's happening would be enough, but instead, we're left totally in the dark, and as a huge fan of the series, it's painful. Either deliver the death blow or give us something to get excited about!
