10 Video Games That Wasted Their Ludicrous Budgets On Terrible Levels
2. Dead Space Asteroid Shooting
In a world where both Silent Hill and Resident Evil have lost their way (the latter far more notoriously), Dead Space has made its mark as one of the best survival horror game series around. In particular, the first game, which sees you exploring the unbelievably creepy USG Ishimura (a spaceship used to mine planets), is a masterclass in atmosphere and tension it's a game that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. One of the systems that Isaac Clarke needs to repair on the ship is the automated defence turrets but while the repairs are being made, he has to manually defend the ship from asteroids which are breaking apart on the hull. The asteroids need to be destroyed by a turret and this leads to one of the most frustrating sequences in the game. You'll fail multiple times as asteroids fly at you left, right and centre; Isaac must look pretty stupid to those on the ship's bridge as they watch the ship's condition plummet. There's also an achievement/trophy to keep the shield's condition above 50% - a task that will require you to restart again and again, if you want to earn it. Even if you aren't a completist, this is still an unbelievably annoying segment in an otherwise great game.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
