10 Video Games Where You Unexpectedly Swap Characters
3. Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness
Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness isn't a game fondly remembered by fans of the series or, well, anyone.
Rushed to market and largely panned by critics for its janky gameplay and general lack of polish, the sequel also made one more cardinal sin: it (temporarily) took Lara Croft away from us.
Though we do indeed spend the bulk of the game playing as the series' globe-trotting heroine, players are unceremoniously forced to control Lara's male sidekick Kurtis Trent for a few of the final levels.
In addition to simply not being Lara, Kurtis' more limited move-set makes him a real pain in the ass to play as, made all the worse by his missions amounting to around an hour of play-time. Oof.
Mercifully, more planned Kurtis content was actually cut from the final game due to the rushed development, and it was later revealed that publisher Eidos Interactive only put him in the game in the hope of creating a spin-off franchise. Obviously, that didn't happen.
