7. Hitman

This is a bit of a controversial entry given that Hitman protagonist Agent 47 is maintained to be an "anti-hero" by many of the series' fans, who rationalise that because the assassin generally only murders "bad" people, he therefore can't really be a bad person himself, right?

Except, killing for money is killing for money no matter how you spin it, and though many of the people Agent 47 kills are indeed actual human garbage, does that really mean they're all worthy of being unambiguously wiped off the face of the Earth?

Attempts have certainly been made in recent Hitman games to make Agent 47 a more redemptive character, but given some of the genuinely sadistic assassination options given to the player, it's really tough to view the guy in a favourable light at all, as fun a protagonist as he is.

At absolute best, he's an anti-hero operating in an extremely dark, almost imperceptible shade of grey.
