10 Video Games With "That One Level" Everyone Hates
8. Down The Tubes - Earthworm Jim
Released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, Earthworm Jim couldn't have come out at a better time. 2D platformers had ruled the console space for years and were ripe for a good parody. Add in graphics that looked like they came straight from a Saturday morning cartoon and some gross-out humor and you had a perfect game for the Ren And Stimpy generation.
Too bad the Down The Tubes level ruins everything.
Like the dam level from Ninja Turtles, you are once again navigating a narrow, precarious underwater cave system under a strict time limit. Unlike the dam level, there are no real obstacles in your way. Broken up by platforming sections, your only goal is to make it from one end of a winding tunnel to another. So where does it all go wrong?
I'll tell you where: bouncing off the walls like a damn pinball! If you hit a wall, it damages your vessel. Worse, it bounces you back, often into another wall. Before you know it you're in a panic, bouncing between walls, racing a ticking clock and ripping your hair out!
Anyone have a pillow I can punch?
