10 Video Games With Incredible Stories But Terrible Gameplay

8. Persona 2: Innocent Sin

The Persona 2 duology - consisting of Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment - are a rather unsung pair of games compared to their more feted sequels.

Eternal Punishment was however broadly praised for improving upon Innocent Sin's flaws, the most glaring of which is that it's just a damn tedious chore to get through.

Everything in the game - especially the combat - takes far too long to do, and for anyone coming to the game today after having played the later entries in the series, there's no way for it to not seem excruciatingly quaint.

It's a shame, though, as Innocent Sin's story is one of the series' best and most original, abetted by a bevy of delicious twists and a memorable, likeable cast of characters. It's just heightened enough to be unforgettable and interesting, yet not enough that it goes totally off the rails.

But alas, the core gameplay is so freaking mundane you couldn't be blamed for watching a Let's Play like a visual novel and scrubbing past the dishwater-dull combat.
