10 Video Games With The Most Collectibles

1. Donkey Kong 64 - 3,821

DK Collectibles

In the year 2000, Donkey Kong 64 achieved the Guinness World Record for the most collectibles in a video game, with a grand total of 3,821. It has maintained this record for two decades, which is a remarkable achievement considering so many modern games are padded out with as many items as possible.

So, how come DK's first 3D outing has so many things to obtain? Well, early 3D platformers popularised the concept of collecting a large number of objects to obtain an important collectible. (In Super Mario 64, you need to collect 100 coins to obtain a Power Star.) DK64 follows a similar formula since the tie-wearing ape can collect up to 100 bananas per level.

However, you play as five characters, meaning you can collect a maximum of 500 of this fruit per world.

But that's just the bananas. You also have to collect 40 blueprints, 40 Banana Medals, 20 Banana fairies, 8 keys, 10 battle crowns, 201 golden bananas, (lot of bananas in this), a Nintendo Coin, and a Rareware Coin.

Considering Donkey Kong 64 has nearly double the amount of collectibles to the runner-up, it's safe to say it'll hold onto this record for a long time.
