7. Final Fantasy VII

You probably assumed this would be here - FF VII is the one game that pops up in any retrospective or essentialist-based list, it's just the game any gamer new and old will stumble upon at some point, so influential and defining was its presence on the West that to this day the lofty heights the franchise soared off its back are impossible to return to.

However, when it comes to replaying this now it's everywhere from PC to PSP, with a 'remastered' (PC port) PS4 version coming later this year too. Back to the game itself though, and although it goes a bit too over-the-top when it comes to philosophical star-gazing conversations towards the back-half, you'll rarely play something where every single second feels so masterfully crafted as this.
