10 Video Games You Didn't Know Had Multiplayer

9. Final Fantasy IX

GTA San Andreas
Square Enix

As much as we all love to mock that infamous scene in Charlie's Angels where two boys are shown playing Final Fantasy VIII with two controllers - it being a thoroughly single-player experience and all - the next game in the series did actually include a secret multiplayer mode.

In Final Fantasy IX, players are able to allocate half of their party members to the second controller, so while player one is still in primary control of the game, player two can take the role of certain party members and help dictate the outcome of battle.

For all of those hours we all played FFIX while our friends sat idly watching, this sure would've been a fun way to involve them a little more.

This isn't even the first time the series has included this feature, though, with Final Fantasy IV-VI also including similar multiplayer functionality.

Disappointingly in the case of FFIX, however, the feature was cut from the game's modern ports due to them being based on an Android remaster where there was no possibility of two-player. Boo.
