10 Video Games You Didn't Know Were Connected

4. Radical Dreamers/Chrono Cross

You have to squint harder than an amblyopic in the morning light to see the connections between Chrono Trigger and its semi-sequel Chrono Cross, besides the similarities in the title. That has much to do with the fact that Cross is effectively a retelling of Radical Dreamers, a little known choose-your-own-adventure game for the SNES's short-lived Satellaview add-on.

In the game, a trio of treasure hunters infiltrate Viper Manor, home of an aristocrat named Lynx (who literally is one), in search of the mythical Frozen Flame. The names of two of these would-be big cat burglars? Serge and Kid - identical to the dual protagonists of Chrono Cross (the third, Gil, was originally intended as Chrono Trigger's Magus in disguise, but later scrapped due to plot difficulties).

Concluding the link between the two games is the tear-jerking song over Chrono Cross' credits - titled, of course, 'Radical Dreamers'.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
