10 Video Games You Didn't Know Were Hidden In Other Games
8. Mortal Kombat 2 - Pong
There were a couple of old-timer arcade titles hidden within Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, but it wasn't our first bit of classic arcade gaming within the Mortal Kombat franchise - 1993's Mortal Kombat 2 took things back even further, almost to the genesis of gaming, with a hidden version of Pong. Often considered the first arcade video game (although it was predated by Nolan Bushnell's Computer Space among others), Pong is as basic as its age would suggest. Two white paddles on a black screen, sending a ball back and forth in a sort of early tennis prototype. As you can imagine, Mortal Kombat 2 had the horsepower to pull of a perfect port of the original. No surprises there. This version was given a bit of MK flavor by including Mortal Kombat-style sound effects, most notably the timeless "Toasty!" each time a point was scored. It was dead easy to play, but getting to play it wasn't quite so simple - it took 250 2-player matches to gain access to this venerated Atari hit. Is it worth the effort? Probably not, but it's a memorable achievement all the same.
Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
