In 2017, PlatinumGames and Square Enix released Nier Automata, which was regarded as an instant classic. So, when the two companies announced they were reuniting for a multiplayer RPG called Babylon's Fall, the gaming community assumed we would be getting another masterpiece

Instead, the fittingly named Babylon's Fall was hailed as the biggest flop of 2022. As disappointing as Marvel's Avengers turned out, it was a triumph compared to this debacle. Thanks to bland designs and astoundingly repetitive combat, the most patient gamers would struggle to endure Babylon's Fall for more than ten minutes.

Being a live-service title, the creators were expecting thousands of gamers to be playing Babylon's Fall at any one time. Sadly, the most simultaneous players Babylon's Fall ever had was 1,166. (By comparison, Fortnite had 2.5 million concurrent players at its lowest point last year.) If that sounds pitiful, that number dropped down to a single player within two months!

After only six months, SquareEnix announced Babylon's Fall's servers would be shut down for good on February 23rd 2023, after less than a year on the market. Sadly, we can't even say, "It was fun while it lasted" since nobody enjoyed playing one second of this mindboggling travesty.
