10 Video Games You Have To Punish Yourself To Play

9. Hotline Miami 2

As the sequel to Hotline Miami, it seemed like 2 might never compare to its iconic predecessor. But - for better of for worse, depending on who you speak to - it certainly did.

The reasons for why are definitely a mixed bag. While Hotline Miami 2 is undeniably fun and challenging, sometimes this challenge comes from artificial forms; such as incredibly fast enemies you'd have to be killed by to be able to predict, enemies that require you to awkwardly lean the camera up or to one side to see them, and straight up horde rush you.

None of this is impossible to deal with, but - especially if you're trying a playthrough on hard mode - it adds on a layer of random chance to the difficulty. It's still more than possible to plan it all out, but when you're blindsided from offscreen you can't help but feel a small pang of extra irritation.

That said, the fact that you're more likely to get swarmed with enemies in 2 does make it incredibly fun, as there's nothing quite like sweating about the fact that one hit will kill you while you take on a team of equally murderous folk.
