10 Video Games You Regretted Playing
7. Duke Nukem Forever
Look, we all had an edgy phase to our lives - some of us grew out of it and some of us grew into it. For those of us who put our edgelord years behind us in our teens it wasn't nearly as intriguing to see cruelty and rudeness for the sake of humor.
Sure, a low-brow boob joke can still make us chuckle, maybe even a parodical film that last an hour and a half. But we can't ride the wave of misogyny, cruelty, and penis jokes for a whole video game anymore.
Times were certainly different back when the first Duke Nukem game came out in 1991; games barely even had storylines. It wasn't until 1996's Duke Nukem 3D that the series really became associated with sex, graphic violence, and one-liners. Arguably intended to be biting satire, mostly of the '80s action film industry.
Cut to fifteen years later and we were all disappointed in Duke Nukem Forever. What had been biting, humorous chicanery became graphic for the sake of being graphic. And speaking of graphics - those could have used some work, too.
With dated visuals, poor controls, and bad level design, even the edgelords who still leaned into the humor - no longer even vaguely satirical - had nothing to enjoy here.
