We've known for a while that EA are working on another Star Wars game set to launch sometime before April 2022. However, while most fans assumed that would be DICE's Battlefront 3, recent rumours suggest EA are setting their sights on an entirely different section of the galaxy far, far away.

According to an insider leak, the next phase of the Star Wars saga is going to focus on the era of the High Republic, which will take fans 400 years before the beginning of the Skywalker saga. This next phase is known as Project Luminous, and will see movies, books and video games all tie together to flesh out this never before seen part of the Star Wars universe.

Even more tantalising, though, is the tease that this entire project will kick off with EA's next Star Wars video game in 2021. This will offer our first proper look at what the High Republic even is, and while the publisher might not be the safest hands to take on this massive job, it's undeniably a tantalising prospect.
