10 Video Games You Won’t Believe Are In Development
6. Tekken X Street Fighter
One of the biggest botched crossovers of the 2010s is undoubtedly Street Fighter x Tekken. The initial idea was that Bandai Namco and Capcom would come together for the most ambitious fighting game event in history, delivering not one but two games featuring fighters from both franchises.
Because the two series employed radically different takes on one-on-one fighting, instead of compromising their respective gameplay suites one game would utilise the 2.5D style of Street Fighter, and another the fully 3D style of Tekken. The teams clearly had faith in the project, but that all vanished when the first instalment launched in 2012.
The response wasn't overwhelming, but the developers plugged along anyway, tinkering away with follow up Tekken x Street Fighter, with updates in 2015 stating that it was still in active development.
No new images or trailers ever released though, and the tune had changed by 2018 when the studios were unsure whether to release the game because both franchises were enjoying success on their own. After uhming and ahing, one of the lead producers on Tekken, Katushiro Harada, took to Twitter in December to ask whether people even still wanted the crossover.
That's how games are made now, I guess.
