10 Video Games The Fans Saved From Their Own Developers

8. A Hacker Makes E.T. For The Atari Actually Playable

E.T. for the Atari 2600 is popularly referred to as the worst game ever. It€™s a game so bad that its unsold copies were infamously buried in a New Mexico landfill for fear of anyone actually playing it. But not everyone hated it - or at least, what it should've been: a group of online fans felt that it had some genuinely good ideas that were ruined by a rushed development time. Among them, was a man by the name of David Richardson. Richardson did more than speculate E.T. could be good, he actually proved it. By removing some of the more confusing and annoying elements (as well as making E.T. the proper color), he was able to make one of the great gaming abominations into something playable. It€™s still not great, but anything above landfill-worthy is a considerable step up in quality.
